EE Computer Computer/Account Policy

This is a work in progress, please check often for updates
  1. In addition to department policies, all users are expected to abide by the University of Mississippi's campus Appropriate Use Policy. Which is located at http://www.olemiss.edu/ause.html
  2. No user shall not give their personal account information (passwords, etc...) to any other individual
  3. No user shall install any software on departmental machines without proper authorization. This includes personal software and software used for instant messaging services. We understand the need for messaging software such as AIM, ICQ, MSN Messager, Yahoo Pager and the like, we suggest you use their java based clients which run from any browser if you want to use these services.
  4. No user shall leave their machines logged in when they leave for any reason. If you have a program running and wish it not to be disturbed please use the "lock workstation" feature on windows 2000 or NT. If the machine is windows 95/98 this rule may be excused for students doing research.
  5. Home directories have been created on the main server "pharaoh" for individual users to store files on. When you log on your "S:" drive is mapped to this directory automatically. It is suggested you use this special drive to store files on so that we may keep the individual machines as clean as possible. Please do not abuse this drive as all users must share the free space on the file server.
  6. Computer Resources are reserved for academic/research use. Please refrain from using resources for personal use (web surfing, etc) when others are waiting to use them.
