- What graduate specializations are offered?

The graduate program of the Department of Electrical Engineering at The University of Mississippi is concentrated only in closely related areas having electromagnetic theory and telecommunications as a common foundation. The specific areas of activity in electromagnetics are RF, microwaves, antennas, scattering, transient response, and computational methods in electromagnetics and, in telecommunications, are digital, wireless, and satellite communications systems, probability and mathematical modeling, coding, and networking.

- How much is the total cost per year including room and board?

- What are the deadlines for applications?

There are no specific deadlines for applications for our program. Admissions can be made at any time. Fall, Spring, or Summer.

- What are minimum scores for GRE & TOEFL for admissions?

The Graduate School requires that GRE and TOEFL scores be submitted before an applicant will be considered for admission. A TOEFL score of (550 paper, 213 computer) or greater is required for admission in full standing. No specific GRE scores are required; however, the combined verbal and quantitative score should be about 1000 with 75 percentile in the quantitative score to be competitive with other applicants.

- Are the official GRE & TOEFL scores required for admission?

Yes, have them sent to the Graduate School at The University of Mississippi

- Are the GRE test scores for advanced subject area required for admission?

No.

- How can I be considered for financial aid?

On your request, you will be considered for evaluation by the EE faculty for possible financial assistance when you are admitted for graduate studies in the Electrical Engineering Program (Applied Electromagnetics or Telecommunications).

- Are letters of recommendation required?

Letters of recommendations are not specifically required; however, they could be useful in making decisions for final admission and assistantship.

- What are the graduate courses in the areas of specializations?

- Can tuition be wavered?

No, but you can receive a tuition scholarship if you are receiving some financial assistance from the University or a graduate scholarship.

- What graduate degrees are offered?

M.S. and Ph.D. in Engineering Science with emphasis in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Computational Engineering Science.

- What is the salary range of assistantships?

$1,200 to $16,000 per year for ½ time assistantship depending on job assignment, capabilities, and degree. Graduate assistants who are full time students and who receive stipends of over $1,800 per semester will normally receive a tuition scholarship and those that receive $600 per semester are eligible for consideration for a non-resident fee scholarship.

- Can the application fee be wavered or deferred?

No, you must make arrangements to pay this fee, in some way.

- Can a very good GRE score offset average academic performance (or low GRE and high academic performance) for admission?

Possibly, it would be considered as part of the admission considerations.

- How much importance is given to the undergraduate college where the applicant obtained his or her undergraduate?

It is considered, but is not a major factor.

- If financial assistance is not awarded, can support be obtained in late semesters?

Yes, depending on performance.

- Do you have a quota system

No

- Does experience on research or projects influence admissions considerations?

Yes, research or project experience in the area of emphasis is considered.

- What is the possibility that the college or university of the applicant is known to the University of Mississippi?

The Registrar, Graduate School, and International Programs Office are knowledgeable about all Universities and Colleges, or they have access to resources to learn about a specific school
