EE RECEIVES NOBEL PRIZE FOR INVENTION OF IC

Mr. Jack Kilby, an Electrical Engineer formerly of Texas Instruments, received the Nobel Prize in Physics in December 2000 for his part in the invention and development of the integrated circuit at Texas Instruments in 1958. This singular event provided the basic circuit element that has led to the Information Age, that has had such tremendous impact for change on our society. Digital computers, pagers, cell phones, wireless networks, e-mail, and the internet as we know them today could not exist without this small, microelectronic device, called the Integrated Circuit! Where will it take us in the future? We will have to wait and see, but the integrated circuit market is booming and, today, is supporting a $200 million dollar global industry.
