New Assistant Professor Joins EE Department

      The Department of Electrical Engineering at The University of Mississippi is pleased to announce that Dr. Lei Cao a recent Doctor of Philosophy graduate, with emphasis in wireless communications, will join the department this year. A biographical sketch for Dr. Cao is given below to provide background information on our newest EE faculty member.

      Dr. Lei Cao was born in Anhui, China in 1968. He received his B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from Hefei University of Technology in China in 1990, the M.S. degree in Computer Science from University of Science and Technology of China in 19893, and the Ph. D. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Missouri-Columbia in 2002.

      From 1993 to 1998, he was a lecturer in the Department of Electronic Engineering at University of Science and Technology of China. He was a research assistant during his Ph. D. program and teaching assistant in 2000 at University of Missouri-Columbia. He was with Symbol Technologies Inc. in the summer of 2000 and with Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories in 2001. Starting from August 2002, he will join the University of Mississippi as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering.

      His research interests can be summarized into two categories. One is signal processing and wireless communications, and the other covers multimedia technologies including image processing, image/video coding, graphics and fractals etc. He is a member of IEEE and a member of Sigma Xi.

      Dr. Lei Cao is married to Yu Wang, and they have a wonderful son: Mingyang Cao.
