Elsherbeni Receives Awards

Dr. Atef Z. Elsherbeni, professor of electrical engineering, received the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Region 3’s 2002 Joseph Biedenbach Outstanding Engineering Educator Award for his outstanding contributions to his profession and engineering education.

Elsherbeni also was awarded the School of Engineering 2002 Outstanding Faculty Member Award presented by the Engineering Alumni Chapter of The University of Mississippi for his many contributions to his students, his profession and his department.

The School of Engineering Outstanding Faculty Award is selected by a lengthy and elaborate process involving peers, students, the dean, and representatives of the Engineering Alumni Chapter. Faculty are evaluated for their performance in teaching, research, and service over a three-year period.

After receiving his doctoral degree in electrical engineering from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada, in 1987, Elsherbeni joined UM’s Department of Electrical Engineering as an assistant professor. He was promoted to the rank of Professor in 1997.
